Homemade Puppies: From Heartfelt Beginnings to a Purpose-Driven Future

A Vision Rooted in Family and Heart

Homemade Puppies began with one family’s deep love for dogs and a desire to do things differently. Founder Sheila, along with her husband Derric, didn’t set out to build a business; they set out to build a better way.

Sheila grew up surrounded by dogs. They were part of her family, woven into the fabric of everyday life. When she and Derric started a family of their own, that same love carried forward. Each dog that joined their home was carefully chosen, thoughtfully raised, and deeply loved for the personality and presence they brought to the household.

Their journey was personal, not commercial, and that personal touch became the heart of Homemade Puppies.

The Turning Point: Seeing the Need for Change

Over time, Sheila began to notice something that didn’t sit right. In many parts of the breeding world, dogs were being treated like commodities instead of companions. Sheila saw how that approach contradicted everything dogs give us: loyalty, love, and trust.

So she decided to do it differently. And that became known as The Homemade Puppy Way.

Evolving the Vision: The Next Chapter

Today, Homemade Puppies carries forward Sheila’s original vision, expanding it into a broader network that protects the same heart-led mission while introducing structure, education, and long-term support for both breeders and families.

Under its next evolution, Homemade Puppies partners with small, boutique, home-based breeders who share these values. Each breeder is guided in early development practices such as socialization, temperament building, and genetic health awareness, helping ensure every puppy begins life with stability and confidence.

Families are matched with intention, not impulse. Education replaces guesswork. And every connection is made with the understanding that dogs are not products; they are family.

The Bridge Between Then and Now

Sheila’s story remains the heart of Homemade Puppies, the reason it exists, and the foundation for everything it stands for. The new direction simply builds upon that heart with resources, mentorship, and training support to help more families experience the kind of connection Sheila first envisioned.

Through partnerships with Neshaminy Creek Dog Training, families can access programs like Personalized Puppy Picks to ensure each placement reflects the same thoughtfulness that began in Sheila’s home. The mission is to give every puppy the same gentle start — and every family the education they need to continue it.

Looking Ahead: Heart, Ethics, and Home

Homemade Puppies began as one family’s story, but it has grown into a movement of families who believe in raising dogs with heart, respect, and intention.

The vision that started with Sheila now lives on in every breeder who raises puppies under this philosophy and every family who welcomes them home. Together, they represent what Homemade Puppies truly means - love, care, connection, and the belief that the best beginnings are the ones made at home.

“We hope that our vision of Homemade Puppies helps complete your home with your next four-legged family member — and fills your heart with the same joy our dogs bring to ours.”
