About Shih Tzus

The Shih Tzu is a unique and endearing dog breed that originates from Asia. Recommended for first-time pet owners, these small dogs are famous for their bright demeanor and energetic personality. Despite their small size, they can be quite independent if not adequately trained or socialized correctly. Shih Tzus have abundant amounts of fur which requires regular grooming to avoid matting and other skin issues. They can also live long lives as they have been known to reach up to 10 years of age with proper care!

History

The Shih Tzu is an ancient breed whose true roots remain a mystery. However, some believe it was originally bred in Tibet by lamas to resemble tiny lions! In the late 1800s, Chinese nobility began breeding this pup for a more stylized look and showier coat. When imperial rule ended in China and then later during WWII, their numbers dwindled dramatically – yet some dogs survived on British soil from being imported from China before these tragedies occurred. Thanks to determined breeders during the 1950-60s era however, we still have them today - popular as ever with their signature lion-like mane of hair delighting fans everywhere!

Shih Tzus are known for their lively and alert temperaments, which makes them a great family dog. Whether you’re taking a long stroll through the woods or relaxing at home on the couch, these loyal pups will love nothing more than spending time with their people.
